Welcome
Your 24/7 Digital Resource Center.
Welcome Sweetwater staff, students, and families! Students in the Sweetwater district have access before, after, and during school hours to library media centers at each school site. These libraries are staffed with credentialed teacher librarians and library technicians. School libraries help students develop information literacy skills, provide them with equitable access to books and electronic resources, help raise test scores, and encourage lifelong love of reading.
The library media center is a vital teaching and learning environment in the school community. The school library and its staff are integral to empowering students to become independent lifelong learners. Student learning outcomes are enhanced through the teacher librarian’s acquisition and organization of information resources, the dissemination and circulation of learning materials and collaboratively planned programs to integrate information and digital literacy.
Students’ success in today’s society depends on their ability to use information and communication technologies to access, evaluate, synthesize and present information to develop an understanding of the world in which they live and ultimately work. A teacher librarian is a significant contributor to the development and delivery of the school’s teaching and learning program through the distinct and overlapping roles of curriculum leader, information specialist and information services manager.
A teacher librarian implements the vision of the school community through advocating and building effective library and information services and programs that address the curriculum needs of the school and support the literacy development of every student. Teacher librarians are a wonderful resource and we hope to work with you soon.
